Mission
The mission of Hispanics for Life and Human Rights (HFL) is to educate our Hispanic community regarding the life issues, especially the hate crime they have been subjected to by the abortion industry and promoters of abortion.
History and Dura Realidad Video
HFL was established in 1989 for the purpose of educating the Hispanic community on ALL life issues. This goal is being accomplished largely by way of the following:
Dura Realidad video: In 1994 Hispanics for Life produced Dura Realidad, a Spanish-language version of Gregg Cunningham’s Hard Truth video. This video is being used around the world for purpose of exposing the harsh reality of abortion. Dura Realidad video has been given to Spanish-speaking delegates to the United Nations; The organization, Miles Jesu, uses it as part of the training for their door-to-door ministry at the USA/Mexican border. Mujer Especial, a group that does post-abortion counseling, uses this video in their ministry. It has been shown on national T.V. in Nicaragua; Parts of it were shown on Channel 62 in Los Angeles in September 2001.
At his request, we extended permission to the Secretary of Health and Human Services of Peru to have it shown on Peruvian national T.V. It has been used extensively at Pro-Life conferences in Mexico. It is included in the presentations that are given by Hispanics for Life.
Pro-Life Presentations
HFL has been doing an average of two (2) presentations per month for the last 22 years, equaling approximately 500 presentations given to date. Presentations are given to any size group upon request. The majority have been done at conferences, schools and churches throughout Southern California, other states and also Mexico. Tens of thousands of people have attended HFL presentations.
We have given training sessions to Leaders in five regions of the Los Angeles Archdiocese. Each leader is provided with a vital pro-life starter packet which includes Spanish literature and a copy of the Dura Realidad video to take back to their parish for the purpose of educating the entire parish. At the request of the Bishop of Tijuana, we trained 80 parish representatives at a two-day conference in Ensenada, Mexico. HFL co-sponsored a two-day conference in Tijuana, Mexico on March 13 & 14, 1999. Approximately 250 people attended. HFL held a conference, Festival de La Vida, at the Convention Center in downtown Los Angeles with an attendance of approximately 500.
Hispanics for Life sets up exhibits at all major Spanish-language Catholic conferences such as Hombre Nuevo and El Sembrador that draw tens of thousands of attendees each year.
Spin-Off Organizations
Hispanics for Life’s greatest achievements have been the Spin-Off organizations formed in California, in other states and even in other countries, as a result of our educational efforts. One such organization is Mujer Especial, a post-abortion ministry, which was formed following a presentation by Jay Hernandez and Marcella Melendez at a Right To Life conference. HFL offers help in establishing organizations by providing: advice, guidance, sharing resources, sending out starter packets of pro-life literature/videos and training the leaders.
Media
HFL has been on many television and radio talk shows including: El Show de Cristina, CNN, Univision News and Telemundo News. HFL holds and participates in Press Conferences.
